As a conductor, Ian Jewel has directed many performances with the Purcell Symphony and Chamber Orchestras in London at St John's Smith Square, St James's Piccadilly, St Martin's in the Fields, The Duke's Hall at the Royal Academy and the Royal College Concert Hall. As well as the major symphonic and chamber orchestra repertoire, he has accompanied many up-and-coming young soloists - Minjin Kym in the Bruch violin concerto, So-ock Kim in Tchaikovsky, Soojin Han in Sibelius, and his own students - Daniel Palmizio in the Walton Viola concerto and Rosalind Ventris in The "Schwanendreher" by Hindemith.
